He seems to be the most common salt in any star summons that have him. And looking at the list, the only SP hero I wouldn't *immediately* recognize as better than him are Skadi and Ines (and that one's because I don't recognize her at all yet ... hgmm .. remove barrier from all enemy lves + master-and-gauge-up to all allies? she's definitely among the better ones ...).
The only thing FB Ymir has going for him now (barrier seal doesn't do much) is "dark dmg to all enemies". Compare to Brunhild who has awakening and THE highest PATK in teh game now (when awakened). This little mongrel sits at #65 with about two thirds of the best MATK (currently Frigg).
Well I guess he can also wear jotun-only gear (genesis ender, night mare).
He will become even less useful when we get Riva.
